DIY Home Projects That Will Instantly up the Value of Your Home

Let’s be real, if you’re prepping your house to be sold in the market– one of the last things you want to do is fork out more money on updating and renovating your house, especially if you won’t be able to enjoy all the newly updated stuff. However, part of the selling process is getting the most money for your home; which means it has to hold as much value as possible. Believe it or not, there are some pretty simple things you can do around the house to help make your property worth the price you’re hoping for.  Below are some common and fairly easy updates you can make to your home to make it stand out to buyers.

Brighten up your landscaping.

Whether you have tons of space in your yard for a pretty vegetable garden, or just enough room along your porch for a couple rose bushes; landscaping always makes your home look more appealing.  If your front yard or backyard has any bald patches or dying plants, take the time to fill things in with fresh greenery.  Make sure to choose plants that fair well all year round and that are easy to maintain.

Clean and paint the garage.

If you’ve lived many years in your current home, chances are the garage doesn’t get too much “decorative” attention.  Parking cars in the garage day after day is sure to leave oil stains.  Do your best to blot stains, clean the floors, and fill in any big cracks you see.  After cleaning, paint the floor with special garage floor paint to help prevent it against stains and mildew down the road.  If you don’t have a lot of storage in the garage, consider hanging a few shelves or cabinets if room permits.

Revamp with crown molding.

It’s pretty incredible what something as simple as crown molding can do to a room. This extra touch can give your home the extra wow factor it needs to compete with other houses similar to it. While it may look fancy, it’s pretty simple to install.  All it takes is some appropriately sized crown molding planks, a little paint and a nail gun.

Pay attention to the little details.

While fixtures like light switches, door handles, and faucets can often go unnoticed, they can really make or break a buyer’s decision to move forward with the house or not.  Most of these installations are pretty easy to do and are fairly inexpensive.  This extra effort you put in as the seller will go a long way when buyers begin to show more interest in your home.

Optimize your laundry space.

Whether you like it or not, you spend plenty of time in the laundry room.  Small spaces like this one can easily get cluttered and dirty due to a lack of storage space and organization.  Install some wooden shelves, or even cabinets into the room to give it more value. Add a new coat of paint to give the room the new life it needs.
