Recent Trend: Gallery Wall Tips and Tricks

There’s a reason why people all over the country are adding one or more gallery walls into their home. Not only are they fun to plan and set up but they’re also attractive and stylish. If you’ve found a number of cool pieces you’d like to display in a creative and artistic way, a gallery wall is the way to go.
To help get you started, here are a few tips and sources of inspiration that will help you create your own gallery wall:
Pick Your Favorites
It can be hard deciding which pieces to include in your gallery. We recommend you sit down and separate the pieces you like from the pieces you love, then incorporate the latter. This way the gallery will be a better expression of your taste, personality, etc.
Have A Plan
It’s possible to like your results if you just start tossing up pieces and see how it goes. However, most people will want to approach their gallery wall with a plan. We recommend having a layout in mind before jumping in. One of the best places to get inspiration for your gallery is by checking out what others have done. Pinterest is loaded with awesome gallery walls that you can use to get an idea of your own.
Choose A Style
When it comes to gallery walls there are two styles to follow: casual or formal. A casual display involves frames of varying sizes and types in an organic shape. As for a formal look, include matching frames and placing them symmetrically.
Go For Uniformity
Even if you go for a casual look there should be some cohesion throughout the gallery. This means making sure one or more elements are visible throughout the group of pieces. For example, it’s fine to select different frame types but don’t overdo it. Stick to two or three frame sizes along with a color palette that there’s uniformity in your gallery.
Mix Things Up
Part of the fun of creating your own gallery wall is mixing and matching different things that you like. In other words, you don’t have to set up a gallery made up only of framed photos or prints. Also mix things up with clocks, mirrors, letters, vinyl, or other fun wall decors that fit in with the rest of the pattern.
Rule Of Thirds
Instead of starting your gallery in the center of a wall, consider the Rule of Thirds. This technique, which is more guideline than a rule, involves imagining your wall as a grid split into three rows of three squares and placing your best pieces where the lines intersect. The theory behind this is that our eyes focus more on these points because there are more interest and energy there.
Use Tape & Paper First
Setting up a gallery wall can be fun, but it can also be time-consuming depending on how many pieces you want to include. This is especially true if you’re not left satisfied by your first few attempts, which means you spent all that time putting those frames and decor up just to take them down. To avoid this, cut shapes out of paper and tape them up in the position of the layout you’re considering. If you’re still not happy yet, simply peel the paper templates off and re-tape them elsewhere.
